I run a number of sites and I like to use wordpress, I haven’t checked the stats because I am really lazy but I believe wordpress is easily the most popular blogging platform.
Benefits of WordPress
It’s easy and quick to install, most webhosts have a one click wordpress install using simple scripts.
Loads of different designs available for free, there is lots of different wordpress templates you can install for free with one click.
Easy to post.
Loads of plugins available free, you can install them with one click.
Good for SEO.

WordPress plugins for SEO
There is loads and loads of plugins you can use to help your blogs seo, on this site I am using Platinum SEO and it enables you to do loads of stuff like custom Meta Titles and Meta Descriptions for every post. I have recently started using Aceti on some of my sites and I think it’s good too, this is what the plugin developer says “Aceti is the highest performing SEO plugin; uses 70% less resources than the highest performing SEO plugin. 90% less than the most popular SEO plugin. Loads fewer than 390 lines of code for non-admin page views.” You can download Aceti here.
Another good plugin is 404 redirected. If you delete pages it enables you to create a 301 permanent redirect to similar pages so link juice and visitors are not lost.
Social Plugins
My favourite social plugin is Sexy Bookmarks. It has loads of features and you can no follow the links too. Your users can share your content easily on pinterest, facebook, twitter, digg, reddit and more.
Affiliate Link Plugin
I like to disguise my affiliate links and make the look prettier for many reasons, mostly because I think some users will be put off clicking an affiliate link and because I don’t want to pass link juice. Pretty Link Lite is a very useful plugin for all affiliate marketers that use wordpress, this is what the plugins developer says:
“Pretty Link enables you to shorten links using your own domain name (as opposed to using tinyurl.com, bit.ly, or any other link shrinking service)! In addition to creating clean links, Pretty Link tracks each hit on your URL and provides a full, detailed report of where the hit came from, the browser, os and host. Pretty Link is a killer plugin for people who want to clean up their affiliate links, track clicks from emails, their links on Twitter to come from their own domain, or generally increase the reach of their website by spreading these links on forums or comments on other blogs.”

Monetise Affiliate Network
Monetise is a UK Based affiliate network, formally called profitistic. Their minimum payment threshold is £30 and they pay monthly or weekly if you reach the payment threshold. Types of campaigns available are Pay Per ‘Action’, Pay Per ‘Sale’, Pay Per ‘Lead’ and Co Registration.
It is free to sign up and promote the monetise progams.
You can also earn gift rewards if you generate over £300 a month in commissions.
Affiliate.com Affiliate Network
Affiliate.com or CPA Empire is a US Based affiliate network, they pay by Check, Wire, PayPal. In order to recieve wire payment you need to generate at least $1,000 a week in commissions.

The Neverblue affiliate network is based in Canada. Affiliates from most parts of the world can sign up to the Neverblue affiliate network, they have offers for most verticles, the affiliate interface is very well laid out and campaigns are easy to find. Types of campaigns available are Pay Per ‘Action’, Pay Per ‘Sale’ and Pay Per ‘Lead’.
Neverblue operate many contests in which affiliates can win trips around the world. The pay by cheque, paypal or bank transfer.

All the above affiliate networks are free to join, Affiliate Window does charge a registration fee of £5 but this is worth paying because they have some major advertisers especially in the uk, many of which are exclusive to them. Their minimum payment threshold is £100.

There are many different ways you can earn extra money in your spare time from home, some are more successful than others. One thing that you need to remember is in order to make money you need to put in some effort, the more effort you put in the greater your return should be, I say should be because nothing is guaranteed.
